Strategic Plan for Improving Outcomes

Vision

Every student is empowered to envision—and achieve—a successful future through knowledge, confidence, and purpose.

Mission

Springfield Public Schools educates to empower every student to thrive in school, career, and life by:

  • Grounding instruction in the vision of our Portrait of a Graduate, which defines the essential competencies all students must master to be self-directed learners, critical thinkers, and community-minded leaders.

  • Reimagining schools as joyful, inclusive spaces where purposeful teaching sparks curiosity and learning, driving academic success.
  • Partnering with families and the community as essential collaborators in student achievement and well-being.
  • Attracting, developing, supporting, and elevating exceptional educators and staff.

  • Advancing equity through bold leadership, strategic action, and culturally responsive practices.
  • Preparing students for college, career, and beyond through a relentless focus on literacy, belonging, readiness, and postsecondary success.

Through the lens of “Believe It, Be It,” we bring this vision to life in every classroom, guided by four district-wide instructional priorities:

Early Literacy – Read to Believe

We empower students through early reading success. By building foundational literacy aligned with the Science of Reading, and providing access to joyful, culturally relevant texts, we ensure every child can believe in themselves as readers and thinkers.

Middle School Transformation – Joyful Journeys

Middle school is a time of discovery. We are reimagining this journey to ensure students are engaged in rigorous, meaningful learning that sparks curiosity and fosters identity, agency, and belonging.

College and Career Readiness – Your Future, Your Choice

We prepare students to make informed, empowered choices about their futures. By expanding access to advanced coursework, career pathways, and personalized supports, students graduate with the readiness to pursue college, careers, or both.

Post-Secondary Success – Beyond Graduation

Our responsibility extends beyond the diploma. We support students to persist in post-secondary experiences through advising, alumni connections, and data-driven interventions that keep them on track and thriving beyond high school.

By integrating rigorous academics with a culture of empowerment and equity, Springfield Public Schools ensures that every student is not only prepared—but inspired—to shape their own future.

Core Values

  • Empowerment through Equity: We challenge injustice, close opportunity gaps, and ensure just outcomes for all students.
  • Culturally Rooted Learning: We honor student identity and history through responsive teaching and relevant learning experiences.

  • Community Strength: We build on the assets of our students, families, staff, and partners to strengthen our schools.
  • People First: We lead with empathy, listen with care, collaborate with intention, and show kindness in all we do.

Along with strong basic skills programs, enrichment and extracurricular activities also add depth and scope to the overall educational program. Our pre-k to grade 12 curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all—not just some—of our students.
