Biography
Gumersindo Gomez, Jr. is a lifelong resident of Springfield’s Ward One and a dedicated public servant committed to community engagement, youth advocacy, and equitable public education. He currently serves as a School Committee member representing Wards 1 and 3, bringing a strong understanding of neighborhood needs and a deep connection to the communities he represents.
Gumersindo is an active member of the Ward One Democratic Committee and has contributed to civic life through service on a Special Civic Engagement Committee for the Springfield City Council, where he supported efforts to strengthen public participation and local governance.
Professionally, Gumersindo works in a supervisory role with the Mental Health Association, where he brings extensive experience supporting at-risk youth and families. His background includes work with children at the Westfield Detention Center and in residential treatment programs at the New England Center for Youth and Family (NCYF). This professional experience informs his approach to school governance, emphasizing student well-being, trauma-informed practices, and systems of support that meet students where they are.
