Computer Science Education Week 2023
Computer Science Education Week 2023
Computer Science Education Week is celebrated ever year to celebrate Grace Hopper, who is now known as the woman who revolutionized computer coding! We celebrate during the week of her birthday, which is December 9th. This year CSEdWeek is celebrated from December 4th through 8th to inspire K-12 students to learn computer science, celebrate the contributions of past and present computer scientists and spread awareness!
Here in Springfield Public Schools, we are thrilled to Celebrate #CSEdWeek! We want to inspire students, educators, and families to learn all about Computer Science by utilizing the activity pages provided!
Computer Science helps cultivate problem-solving skills, logic, and creativity to explore the use of these skills both with and without technology. Computer science is all about using computers to solve problems. It involves learning how to write computer code (or instructions) that tells a computer what to do, as well as understanding the mathematical and logical concepts behind those instructions. Everyone can benefit from learning concepts of computer science. This year for CS Education Week, Springfield Public Schools wants to highlight and celebrate Computer Science Skills.
At Springfield Public Schools, we are excited to have every school participate in #CSEdWeek!
Explore the buttons below or tabs to the left to access inspirational videos, our student interview, and the Computer Science activities for the classroom and at home!
If you have questions or need support, please reach out to Rachel Miller (

)
A special thank you to the educators at the following schools who have worked hard on planning and designing our CSEdWeek activities:

Liane Kendall-Elias Brookings Elementary School
Alva Laster- STEM Middle Academy
Casey McKenzie- High School of Science & Technology

Melissa Zeitz – Alfred G. Zanetti Montessori School
“I think everyone should get a little exposure to computer science because it really forces you to think in a slightly different way, and it’s a skill that you can apply in life in general, whether you end up in computer science or not”
- Tony Hseih, Founder, Zappos
“Coding is today’s language of creativity. All our children deserve a chance to become creators instead of consumers of computer science”
- Maria Klawe
