Vision
CSforALL Springfield aspires to create a generation of empowered problem-solvers by integrating computer science concepts and computational thinking skills into the curriculum of all 32 Springfield elementary schools. This will ensure every student graduates with the necessary knowledge to thrive in our interconnected world, aligning perfectly with the district's Portrait of a Graduate.
Mission
CSforALL Springfield, an NSF-funded Research-Practice Partnership (RPP) among Springfield Public Schools, UMass Amherst’s colleges of Information and Computer Sciences (Manning) and Education, and SageFox Consulting Group, is committed to ensuring equitable access to computer science education for all elementary students, fostering a diverse future workforce. Our mission is to:
- Integrate Comprehensive Curriculum: Actively incorporate 23 computer science modules and computational thinking skills into the curriculum of all 32 Springfield elementary schools, providing a strong foundation for every student.
- Support and Develop Educators: Appoint a designated School Lead at each school to facilitate Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on the module content and teaching methods. CSforALL teacher coordinators offer pacing guidance and continuous support through quarterly professional development sessions and 1-1 mentoring for School Leads and CS teachers.
- Ensure Continuous Improvement: Regularly revise computer science modules based on educator feedback to keep the curriculum relevant and effective, empowering students to become confident and creative problem-solvers.
- Prepare Students for the Future: Equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in our interconnected world, preparing them for future academic and professional success.
By achieving this mission, CSforALL Springfield aims to create an inclusive and dynamic learning environment where every student will explore, innovate, and thrive in the digital age, therefore developing the skills outlined the Portrait of a Graduate.
