Community Safety Reminder

Community Safety Reminder
Posted on 01/16/2020

Message in response to the amber alert issued Wednesday in Springfield:

As a district, we are certainly relieved and grateful that the youngster was reunited with her family. We would like  to take this time to remind all families of safety tips related to students walking to and from school. Please make sure your student is educated about stranger danger; explain to them that they should walk with a buddy whenever possible; and remind them to stay mindful of their surroundings at all times.

We want to remind families that cell phones can be a very useful safety tool for students traveling to and from school, though they cannot have them out while IN school. Families may also consider a safety whistle for their student.

The positive results of the amber alert this week prove to us that working together, community CAN make an important difference. We remind all families of the importance of speaking up if something seems a little off.

Please know that there are many resources available to  help parents keep their children safe in the community.  Some of those resources include:

- KidsHealth.Org

National Crime Prevention Council

- National Child Identification Program
