Teaching in Springfield Public Schools

What Are We Looking for in Our Teaching Candidates?

At a minimum, candidates must:

  • Have a valid Massachusetts' teaching license for the appropriate content area and grade level

  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree

  • Current authorization to work in the United States

Licensure

Springfield Public Schools requires teachers to be licensed by the state in the area they are teaching in on the first day of employment.

To be granted your educator license from the state, you must pass the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL)

 

Critical Needs

In addition to welcoming applications for all teaching positions, we are particularly interested in candidates who are interested in teaching in one of our critical needs areas and appropriately licensed for that area. How Do You Apply for a Job with Springfield Public Schools?

Springfield Public Schools only accepts completed online applications through our TalentEd Career Website. Please note that in order to be considered to a position, all candidates must complete an online application. To view and apply for current postings, please click here.

The following steps should be completed (in order) by candidates interested in working in the Springfield Public Schools.

Step 1. Go to the SPS TalentEd Career Website located here

Step 2. Browse our open positions 

    • Tip: You can find open positions by entering search terms into the search bar, read the job descriptions, and apply for those that are right for you.

Step 3. Review and verify that you meet minimum qualifications for the position. These can be found at the bottom of the posting. Should you have any questions, contact the Human Resources Department at 413-787-7100 ext. 55390.

Step 4. Select the position you are interested in and click the “Apply for this Position” button on the right-hand side. This will prompt you to create an account or log into your existing TalentEd profile. Once logged in, you must complete all the required application field to be considered for the position.

What Can You Expect After Applying for a Position?

Step 1. The Application Review: Each school/department hiring manager, typically the school leader or department administrator, will review applications for their posted positions.  It is important to note that schools and departments manage their own interview/hiring process and that the review process may look slightly different from building to building. 

Step 2. The Interview: Once application materials have been reviewed, applicants may be selected for an interview. If selected for an interview, you will be contacted directly by the School/Department. Should you have specific questions about the position or the status of an application, please contact the hiring manager listed at the bottom of the posting. with district-approved interview questions

Step 3. The Offer If recommended for the position, you will be contacted by the Human Resources Department with instructions and next steps upon successful reference and background checks. Do your best to provide the requested documentation and information in a timely and thorough fashion, so we can get you working in your new position.
